Akron Gear and Engineering Machining

Akron Gear is much more than a gear shop. We also posses the equipment to meet your machining needs. From 1/2" diameter shafts and spindles to 50,000 pound bases, Akron Gear has the right machines to meet the challenge.

Our exceptionally large machining capacity gives us an edge over our competition in the fact that we can not only cut the gears for your equipment, but we also manufacture the blanks, and in many cases manufacture and machine the mating parts to insure a quality fit with the final product.

Turning

Akron Gear has an excellent track record with large part turning. Large gear blanks, wear rings, spacer plates, rotors, fans, hubs and fabrication components are just a fraction of the parts that Akron Gear routinely turns for our customers. We understand that a finished product is only as good as the parts put into it, and we take as much pride in quality parts as you do.

Akron Gear can turn parts up to 110" in diameter and 110" tall on our vertical torrent lathes. Shafts are also no problem with lathe capabilities up to 25" in diameter and 100" long.

We not only turn large parts, but also machine small parts on our CNC lathes. We can parts as small as 1/2" diameter.

Milling

Akron Gear's milling capabilities are unrivalled with our Juaristi 5-axis CNC Boring Mill, capable of machining parts up to 50,000 pounds and nearly 100 cubic inches. Crank gear trunions, wire drums, bases, housings and intricate shaft machining are common place items on our three boring mills.

Other

Turning and milling are not our only areas of performance when it comes to machining your parts.

Akron Gear routinely assist other gear shops with our keyseating capabilities of up to 3" wide keys and 25" key strokes.

Grinding, drilling, threading and slotting help to round out our machining abilities at Akron Gear.
